What is foil transfer? How does finishing with flex film work?

The term foil transfer describes a process in which a motif is transferred from a carrier foil to a textile using heat and pressure.
In foil transfer, the desired motif is first cut out of a special transfer foil using a cutting plotter.
The excess material is then removed (“weeded”) so that only the motif remains on the carrier foil. This is then applied to the target material using a transfer press at a high temperature.
Foil transfer is particularly suitable for lettering, logos or simple graphics with clear contours. The films are available in many colors, including metallic effects, which gives the print a high-quality appearance.
The investment for the initial equipment is low and you have no upfront costs for e.g. film or screen set-up.
There is no minimum number of pieces. Unique pieces and small series are produced within a very short time.
Also suitable for heat-sensitive fabrics thanks to the “LowTemp” function.
The motif is created on the computer and cut out of the transfer film in mirror image using a cutting plotter. The device only cuts the top layer of film – the carrier film remains intact.
After plotting, the excess film material is removed. This step is called “weeding”. All that remains is the desired motif on the transparent carrier film.
The weeded design is positioned on the textile and pressed onto the material at high temperature and pressure using a transfer press. The backing film is then removed – the finished design adheres to the textile.
