What are DTF films? Which transfer films are available and which is the best for your requirements?
On this page you will find everything you need to know about DTF transfer films and what you should look out for when buying a film for DTF transfer printing.
With direct-to-film transfer, the design is first printed on a special film with an adhesive layer. The design is then transferred from the film to the material by pressing it onto the textile under heat and pressure. After pressing, the film is removed (hot or cold).
DTF transfer films offer first-class print quality and enable complex designs with fine details and color gradients. They are also extremely flexible and can be used on different materials. In our webshop you will find a wide selection of DTF films in various formats.
When buying a DTF transfer film, you must pay attention to its specific properties and processing instructions. The film should also be compatible with your DTF inks and materials.
1. hot peel
With the hot peel process, the film and the print do not adhere to each other as strongly when hot. This means that the film can be removed immediately after pressing. So you don’t have to wait until it cools down and you save time. However, you should make sure that the film does not cool down too much, otherwise it will not be possible to peel it off properly.
2. cold peel
As the film has a relatively strong bond to the print at all temperatures, the print may lift when it is removed while hot. The foil is therefore removed after cooling. This allows the print to adhere firmly to the textile.
3. instant peel
As with “instant coffee”, instant peel means that the transfer film can be removed from the textile immediately after opening the transfer press.
The instant peel film requires higher processing temperatures (with short pressing times, at least 155 °C recommended) and a high contact pressure (recommended: at least 4.5 – 5 bar).
The transfer film must be removed from the textile immediately after opening the press, i.e. when it is “hot”. If the DTF film cools down too much, it is difficult to remove from the textile. Lower temperatures are possible with longer pressing times.
