The term sublimation comes from chemistry: sublimation describes a process in which a substance is converted from its solid state directly into a gaseous state.
Sublimation printing – or dye-sublimation printing – is an indirect printing process. Here, the dye is transferred from a transfer paper printed with sublimation ink to the sublimation blank by heating and sublimated (evaporated) into the material. In principle, anything can be printed with sublimation, as long as it is sufficiently heat-resistant and has a polymer coating (usually polyester).
Sublimation is unbeatable when it comes to printing photos, color gradients, vibrant colors and deep blacks. It doesn’t matter whether you have a large order or are producing a single item – sublimation is suitable for both.
The investment for the initial equipment is low and you have no upfront costs for e.g. film or screen set-up.
Sublimation is perfect for photos, gradients and fine details. Print on items made of ceramics, textiles, aluminum, glass, wood, plastic and much more!
There is no minimum number of pieces. From one-offs and small series to individualized large series – thanks to sublimation, these can be produced within a very short time.
Motifs on textiles can be washed indefinitely. Sublimated cups are suitable for the dishwasher and are characterized by outstanding resistance to frequent washing.
Select an item that you would like to print on. You will find over 1,400 sublimation blanks in our online store.
Create your individual design in a graphics program. You can use our contour templates for this. You can download them directly from the article in the store.
Print your design on transfer paper using a suitable sublimation printing system and special sublimation ink. You can achieve the optimum print with a special driver (e.g. Sublisplash® Driver).
The printout is positioned on the item to be printed and pressed with a transfer press; the dye vaporizes and bonds permanently with the surface. You can find out how long, at what pressure and at what temperature you should press in our article pressure parameter list.
